Nurse Extern Program

During your last year of studies in a registered nursing program, you may qualify to participate in our Nurse Extern Program. If selected, you’ll care directly for patients as you work alongside and learn from some of the area's best nurses. Earn a paycheck while honing skills that will help you become a medical professional.

Financial Assistance

We know that everyone has a different journey. We also understand that you may have some anxiety surrounding school, tuition and licensing fees, while also managing your work schedule and/or clinical rotations, not to mention life outside of school and work. That is why we offer a variety of financial assistance options including:

 
  • Educational Assistance Program

    If you've been accepted into an accredited, pre-licensure nursing program, and are seeking assistance to pay for tuition, books and other school-related expenses, review the program guidelines and apply. For each semester you participate in the Educational Assistance Program, you commit to working six months as a full-time Registered Nurse at Owensboro Health upon graduation. Apply by September 1 for Fall semester assistance and January 1 for Spring semester assistance.
  • Last Semester Tuition Reimbursement

    As a new graduate, when you accept a full-time registered nurse position with Owensboro Health you may qualify for up to $2,500.00 in reimbursement for tuition and licensure fees associated with your final semester of nursing school. In order to receive reimbursement, you must be employed in a registered nurse role within 6 months of obtaining your nursing degree. *Education Benefits and Educational Assistance Program recipients may be eligible for a prorated amount.
  • Contract Buyback

    If you currently have a work commitment with another organization, when you accept a full-time registered nurse position with Owensboro Health, you may qualify to have your contract bought out.
  • Education Benefits Program

    The Owensboro Health Education Benefits Program provides financial support to team members seeking to enhance their educational and skill attainment and to promote professional development. This program provides reimbursement of tuition, course(s) fees or books up to a maximum dollar amount of $5,250 per calendar year.

Nursing Professional Advancement Program

The Nursing Professional Advancement Program at Owensboro Health offers bedside registered nurses and nursing supervisors a chance to grow their skills, earn additional pay and be recognized for their efforts to excel. The program is structured around four levels of achievement, with each level requiring additional activities and accomplishments. For every level achieved, participants earn an additional $1.00 per hour on their base rate of pay (up to $4 per hour, for those who reach Level IV). Program levels are valid for one year. Participants may prepare for advancement to the next level at any time.
